The EC Archives: Modern Love

Modern Love Cover EC Archives

Hi, friends! Long-time, no see! As you may or may not know, I had a baby! My husband and I welcomed our beautifully chubby daughter at the beginning of December and she’s doing fantastic. Almost two months in and I’m finally getting on some semblance of a schedule. LOL, wait…who am I kidding? We are totally at the mercy of the tiny screaming being, but I am getting some headspace and energy back to think about comic books once again! While I didn’t do much writing when I was pregnant because I was so incredibly sick the whole time, I did have the opportunity to write the foreword for the recently released The EC Archives: Modern Love collection from Dark Horse.

Dark Horse Books Modern Love Jacque Nodell Foreword

EC isn’t typically remembered for its romance comics, making this reprint edition of late 1940s romance stories an important offering from Dark Horse. Nowhere else can you read the entire series containing the genius of Al Feldstein, Graham Ingels, Johnny Craig, Marie Severin, Wally Wood, and many others in one beautiful collection.

Modern Love Stolen Romance

Any fan of romance comics, EC comics, or just plain great art will definitely want to pick this up. Not only does the volume contain the entire series run, but there’s also a great introduction, thorough story credits, and the above-mentioned foreword by yours truly. It even includes the original advertisements from the comics, text stories, and advice columns. You know I love those advice columns! The last story in the title “The Love Story to End All Love Stories!” written and illustrated by Al Feldstein is worth the price of the book alone. Trust me on this one!

If you pick it up, I’d love to hear your thoughts! The volume is available digitally for Kindle and comiXology as well as hardcover.
